After drooling over this clock for a few weeks, I finally decided to go ahead and get it. I'd give it five stars, but, like many of the other reviewers, I've found that the sound is a bit...watery. If Articuno melted, for example, this is what he'd sound like. Still, it's absolutely adorable and I love the pop of color that it brings to my living room.

I bought this cuckoo as a gift for my roommate. It was extremely affordable and had the "look" I needed. It fits perfectly in with the décor, but we both agree it I way too noisy. I woke up early and came out to sleep on the couch. I ended up taking it in the back bedroom to get rid of the noise. My partner took out the extra battery and now the clock is in its rightful place. I would love to see something on the website about the noise along with the accolades,

Cool clock

This is a very cool looking clock! It works perfect with our mid-century, danish-modern style. We did need to bring the clock back into the store for a new one because the bird didn't come out with the first clock. The staff at the store were very helpful and cheerfully set a new clock up for us (we brought batteries in with us). It is a liitle louder than we'd like. Two of our kids complain about it everyday, we are just waiting for them to get used to it!

Help setting up the clock

So like all of you I read the reviews in search for help or even on the website and none is available. So I figured it out and will tell you how. It is important you follow theses step in that order ESPECIALLY for the battery and beware of the AM-PM signs cause there not obvious.
1- Install the 2 C battery (only the C battery and not the AA battery) And yes the battery fits lol
2- Adjust the clock to 12
3- Listen to the cookoo sound (mine used to sing 8 times until I pressed the adjust button after to add hours) In example I pressed one more time it sang 9 times, press twice, sang 10x.. you get the idea Do it til 12 cookoo sound)
4- Turn the dial clockwise to your local time or desired time. Here is the neat part for those who don't know if it's AM or PM. I had mine at noon and it was 1:30PM and as I turned it passed 1PM it started singing which is your first cue because if you keep going it'll sing at each hour you pass while turning the dial and it won't sing pass the 9PM and 6AM time so it is a veeeeery subtle way to tell you the AM-PM setting.
5- Once you have set to desired time install the AA battery.
Hope this help. Oh and one more thing... It's not a alarm clock !!!!

I would love this clock if I could figure out how to set it up. The directions are hard to understand. I can only get it to chirp once every hour. Isn't it supposed To chirp the time (3 chirps for 3pm for example)?

no instructions and still no chirping

I just received the clock and it looks cute but I am not sure how to set it up. It has an "adjust" button on the back but no instructions to tell what it does. I have yet to hear it chirp all day.
How do you set this clock up? I read in a review that it should not chirp between 10pm-5am so I am sure that there has to be a way of setting it up to know am from pm. I was wondering if it is possible to adjust the no chirp time. It is going in my 3 year olds room and I would love to have it not chirp from 8am-8pm. Where can I find instructions????
Also- there are made in china stickers on the back that tear and leave residue on the back side. Would be helpful if these peeled off easier.
If it actually starts working my son will love it. He has been waiting all day for it to chirp!

Just love it! Yes it sounds a little strange but this just adds to it. Directions to set the clock were complicated (you need to do it exactly right step by step so it will not cuckoo durning late night hours).

Great cuckoo clock

We got this cuckoo clock a few weeks ago, and we love it. The "cuckoo" sound is a bit odd, which only makes us love it more. A cuckoo clock is kitschy. The sound should be too. It's well-built and you can't help but notice it when you walk in the room. I would definitely recommend it.

Awesome Cuckoo Clock!

I recently purchased this clock in Chicago during a visit. When I got it home to St. Louis, I realized the bird worked but the clock mechanism was defective. I contacted the North Ave store that I purchased it from and they were extremely helpful! A new clock was sent to me within 48 hours and my defective one was picked up by UPS. When I opened the replacement box, I noticed that CB2 had tested out the clock to make sure it worked properly!
The clock is wonderful and chirps on the hour! I noticed there are reviews that say the sound is a bit low, but mine seems to be a decent volume. Any louder and I think I would be pretty annoyed. I highly recommend if you are in search of that perfect modern clock!

I love this clock! I put it on a white shelf in the kitchen, up high. It looks classy and modern, and it's fun when the bird comes out. My only complaint is the sound of the cuckoo. It sounds like he is in the shower or something, lots of background noise. But it is stylish and a nice gimick! I am really glad I got it.

cute thought, but you can not sit this in the middle of a table the back is a cheap piece of rubber that only covers the batteries and not the other controls, set the cuckoo is not simple and mine still i 3 cuckoos ahead of what it should be, and it sounds like its going to break everytime he is about to cuckoo...

I looked at this item in-store and decided not to buy it. The other reviews are right - the bird chirping is not very audible. In fact, I couldn't hear it over ambient noise and other customers in the store. I had to hold it closer to me ear, and the volume was all the way up! The roof appears more orange than red, I wish it were a bright red instead. Alas, there's another "modern cuckoo clock" floating around online with a similar concept and design, albeit for 3x the price. I might spring for that one instead, if it's better quality. Note this one is advertised as "finished on the back" but this is only half true... it's still acceptable though.

The stylishness of this clock is great and the little bird and the flapping of his wings when he pops out is cute. However, the speaker sounds is awful-too low, garbled and strange sounding. It sounds like the little fellow is trying to scuba dive and cuckoo at the same time. I ordered another clock as a replacement because I thought the speaker might be defective. Alas, the new one sounded exactly the same. It appears I am not the only one who has noticed this flaw. CB2, please look at refitting this clock with a new sound and speaker. As pricey as this clock is, the sound should be right!

the modern cuckoo clock

Love this clock for it's simplicity, but eye-catching uniquiness. Clock is modern, but brings back the laided-backness of what it essentially is - a cuckoo clock! The clock is everything I hoped for a more. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for clean lines, but softness and something different in their home or office.

My husand and I were very happy with the construction and looks of the cuckoo clock... The only detracting element is the cuckoo sound itself... The volume control is nice but the actual bird sounds a little sick, which we both find comical and not much of an issue at all...
