Love it!

I am a post grad and just moved into my new nyc apartment. Didn't want to do anything cheesy but saw this and the price was good so I bought it. Really love it and would recommend it to anyone!

Functional!
Date:03/04/2013
I geek out over functional and modular furniture, so this was a no-brainer for me. It fits records perfectly which is what I'm using it for. These are very sturdy, I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. I bought them before they went on sale and I thought they were pricey, but the price now is officially a steal. Get it!
I loved these when I saw them in the catalog, but was turned off by the price. I was excited to see them go on sale and was hoping to use them for my fiancé's vinyl and turntables. After putting them together he refused to put his expensive equipment on the flimsy cubes. I repurposed them for storage in another room and am happy with them, but they are not worth the money.

Not sturdy
Date:01/05/2013
These cabinets look really nice but the wooden top and bottom does not securely attach to the green metal sides. There are screws to attach the metal sides to the cross bars, but nothing for the wooden top and bottom, only notches for them to sit in. I also don't think there is a way to stack them very securely.
I bought four of these and have stacked them 2x2. They make an attractive shelving option for my home office. The product is very sturdy with a thick wood top. I would have preferred a choice of stain for the wood, but it still looks good. I have my printer on one of the units and the rest I am using for filing and storage. Set up was a little confusing at first because it is a little tricky for one person to assemble but I got the hang of it after completing the first one in about 15 minutes. Would definitely recommend for a casual storage option in an office or kid's bedroom.

speedy modular storage
Date:12/03/2012
I love these. I bought them originally to be bedside tables. Then I needed a taller stand temporarily for a stereo speaker at a recent party. Stacked was a little confusing at first, until I figured out that I had to remove the surface of the lower unit, and the feet of the upper unit. Then it's quite stable. It now lives in my entryway and serves as a perfect spot for keys, my purse, umbrella, etc.
I didn't give it 5 stars because I think it's overpriced for the simplicity of the design and cheaper materials. Also, stacked, I'd love to add more shelves to the existing grooves, but that option doesn't appear to be available. That won't stop me, though, from purchasing a 3rd unit.
Oh, and I love the color.

Good for vinyl storage
Date:10/25/2012
I stacked three of these shelves for vinyl record storage. The shelves look great and have no trouble being loaded down with records. We've had them about a year, and no problems at all. They also look cool and not too flimsy.
I agree that it's weird that you end up with extra pieces. You should be able to order the top shelf separately and then maybe each unit could be cheaper--$100 is kind of pricey. But I'll probably order another couple of them anyway as my husband's collection grows :-/

flimsy

Was disappointed with the quality of the materials and design - wood pieces do not fit well, too slippery to stack, and crossbar in back too thin. I own many pieces of furniture from CB2, and this does not compare to the general good quality of the others.
These so called modular storage should not be stacked. I saw three stacked in the store, and they all fell apart when a sales clerk inadvertently leaned against it. Everything on it came crashing down. I bought three and realized that if I ever leaned against it, I would lose my computer and stereo equipement. For some weird reason, they do not attach to one another. Second, you are forced to keep the top shelf in place and can only place the second shelf mid way or at the bottom. It limits the height of what you can store. They look nice, but i took them back.

I went to the store in West Hollywood, but they were back ordered so i ordered online. I bought 3. I love them. They are super cute for my loft. They are not that expensive.
As some other reviewers commented, when stacking two units, it's not designed to use both top shelves. As a hack, I used four small wood screws to attach the top unit to the top shelf of the bottom unit (through the holes for the feet). It's not great, but it does the trick for me. The shelves are heavy and feel sturdy, but not very thick. So I wouldn't put too much weight on them. The metal sides are well designed, but be sure to really tighten the bolts. They're perfect for some stereo equipment, a few CDs, and a network player.

Look is great but quickly found that construction was not up to CB2 standards. Specifically the brown finish on shelves scratch very easily; am using two stacked units in my kitchen for microwave stand and cookbook, etc. storage and my stainless fruit keeper has already ruined the look of the shelf through scratches. Also, the assembly screws should be a bit longer, one of them popped off within the first week of assembly.
I ordered 3 of these to hold my husband's record collection. One had to be sent back because it was missing hardware and metal sides were not properly stamped. Once we got the replacement together and full of records, the box collapsed as the bottom board broke under the weight. Luckily the records were not damaged, but husband is not happy.
The unit looks cool, and I've been considering it for a while, but I have the exact same issue that a previous reviewer mentioned: why pay for three whole units if, when stacking, you'll eliminate the second shelf on both the second and third units! The first unit needs all 4 sides; add-ons only need 3 sides. It would really help if the add-ons could be sold that way!

I am a bit disappointed that the "modular" nature of this storage unit requires the purchase of three separate units, with resulting extra unusable hardware and two unusable top shelves, that are not needed to build the three-level storage unit as shown in the catalogue and online. True modularity would make certain parts optional and reduce waste and shipping costs, which I am certain are part of the purchase price! I have paid for unnecessary parts. Want to buy them back?
