Was hesitant because of reviews on firmness but have to admit, this sleeper is a good night's sleep. It provides good support and I love that the upright position has 2 options for reclining.
Purchased the protective coating prior to delivery just in case.

Beautiful, but extremely uncomfortable
Date:02/06/2013
When I first received this sofa, I was impressed by how sturdy, stylish and multi-functional it was. You can sit upright, lounge back and watch a movie, or lay it out completely and use it as a bed. All of that sounds great, but there is a drawback - it's beyond uncomfortable. The seat is very firm and the fabric is rough. I don't doubt that this sofa would last a long time, but that would partially be due to the fact that one can't stand sitting/sleeping on it for extended periods of time. If you are just looking for something that looks good, I say go for it, but if you want something that's comfortable as well, DO NOT buy this sofa.

fyi: made by innovation (a good thing)
Date:01/12/2013
retail shops like CB2 often partner with other manufacturers, so it's not a conspiracy, but often a good thing as styling is kept high and price-point low. this sofa is made by a company called "innovation" who make some other really great, transformable furniture... and if you're looking at another convertible sofa/sofabed, there's a good chance you've looked at other innovation products. they make nice stuff and i'm pleased this piece is of that provenance.
as noted by others, this is definitely not a squishy sofa, but for an occasional sofa + an occasional bed for guest/multipurpose room, it serves wonderfully. i'm 6' and i'm comfortably typing this sitting on the sofa with my laptop -- its angle and firmness might make it good as an "office" sofa more so than a slouch-couch.
the upholstery is fairly high quality and is a nice blend between the durability of a synthetic (it is 100% poly) and the look/feel of a canvas -- it's one of the more "natural" all poly fabrics i've felt and it should wear like iron and clean quite easily. the gravel color is a slightly warm/neutral gray more than a cool gray and would blend better with warm colors.
the frame is not overbuilt and is quite beautiful in its simplicity... so many convertibles have weird structures on the underside.
all in all we're quite happy so far. there's very limited selection in this genre and i'm glad we found this one.
We bought the gravel sleeper to serve a dual function in our office/guest room and it has worked great. Great style, easy to pull out and a comfortable (supportive) sleep.
My parents bought this for their office/guest room to replace the horrible futon they use to make us sleep on every time we visited. This was very comfortable--firm and supportive yet not too hard. My husband who has back problems was very happy sleeping on this. My father also loves to take naps on this when it is folded up like a sofa. Great for any guestroom or living room.

First let me say how delightfully efficient it was to deal with CB2. I can't recommend them highly enough. As for the Flex sofa, I love it as do my friends who have seen it. I LOVE the orange, the design, and the overall look it gives the room I have it in. One of my friends can't wait to sleep on it!
Gees, I REALLY want to like this sofa. It's looks great and fits perfectly into my room design. But it is WAY too hard. Uncomfortable to sit on and especially sleep on. I put on two feather beds and could still not get it soft enough to tolerate for a night's sleep.

I am very disappointed in the quality of this sofa. It's very uncomfortable and is already starting to sag after 2 weeks of light use. I've contacted customer service about returning it, but have yet to hear back. I expected more for a $1,000+ piece of furniture.

Not great for lounging & uncomfortable to sleep on without a foam pad but I still like it & would recommend for a sofa that doesn't need to be comfortable.

This sofa has beautiful, modern lines, polished chrome leg-supports and is extra-firm. The coloring is a neutral warm gray with a soft brownish hue. Set-up as a sofa you can choose either 90 or 45-Degree angles for the backrest which is extra versatile. As a bed, you will have one of the best sleeps of your life. Extra cozy, but firm with great support.. I wake up feeling refreshed and you will, too. This is a must-have, particularly if you suffer from back-related problems because of the firmness and support. Customer service is exceptional and delivery personnel are extra-friendly and helpful.

Some reviews mentioned its hardness but having had the couch now for two weeks, I think it comes down to personal preference. I like the solid feel and the three positions you can use with the back. My naps were just fine and it has a nice broad area to sit cross legged if I want to without falling off or sinking into the cushions of a squishier couch.

Great sofa/bed
Date:09/10/2012
This a great little sofa bed. What I like most about it are the 3 different position that the back can adjust to. Although I thought the sofa would be a little too firm to sleep on, it ended on giving the right amount of cushion. It does look a little bland, however the addition of pillows spice it up

This is the most uncomfortable sofa I have ever sat on. I purchased it 2 years ago and hoped it would break in a bit, but no one can sit on it for more than a few minutes because it is simply uncomfortable and unpleasant to sit on. It is as firm as a stone bench and the fabric is rough. I like the design, but it is useless as a sofa.

We put this in our recently refinished basement so the kids could have something durable to either watch a movie, play a game, or have a sleepover on. Works well for all three. Comfortable, stylish, and diverse.
I've had a home office/guest room since I moved into my apartment six years ago, but it also served as a dumping ground for furniture, books, and papers I hadn't sorted through. I purchased this sofa as the centerpiece of a new more streamlined working space. I love it! Its a great place to sit when i don't want to be at my desk. I can lie on it and read documents or talk on the phone. And as a guest bed its fabulous. I host everyone from my five year old nephew to guests from far away lands and everyone loves it.

This item is on my shortlist of sleeper sofas for my small studio apartment. What I like about it is the clean and simple look and the firmness of the piece as a mattress (I'd rather start very firm and customize with a pillow top or the like later, if necessary); it's got to stand up as an every-night bed, and this is one of the few that do at this price. The only potential drawback is that it's also very firm as a couch, and so really calls out for customization via pillows. I personally also find that the 45 degree angle is more comfortable for lounging than the higher (nearly 90 degree) back angle-- the ability to set this is a very nice feature.

Wife and I spent weeks searching for a sofa bed for guests that fit our style but also fit our Brooklyn apartment. This one is a gem. Looks great. Very comfortable and firm as a sofa and a sleeper.
I saw comments about it being a pet hair magnet and hard to clean. It does attract pet hair and a vacuum is useless at solving it. However, using a pet roller like you would for clothing works great. Definitely reccomend.
I do love the sofa, and I've been scouting it out for a couple of years. FInally, as I purchased it, CB2 ended up charging me for the free local delivery. They also stated it was a limited time free offer, which wasn't true. This is my first purchase at CB2 and it might be my last. I'm hoping I continue to love the sofa, but I don't care for the store.
