orissa brass owl
limited edition: One of a Finds original works are offered one time only in a small reserve. This special CB2 find has a limited edition release of 304. nest egg. Believing the uluka (owl) to be a sacred protector of fortune, people in the Orissa region of eastern India bank their rupee in boxes shaped like the wise bird-companion of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Expertly detailed with an antiqued patina, our handcrafted sculpture pays homage to this piece of Hindu mythology, hinging open to stow money, jewelry and other valuables. Each of these unique creatures is created by hand through the ancient technique of lost-wax casting. In this complex process, wax is poured between layers of hand-sculpted plaster, then melted or "lost" and replaced by molten metal. Once cooled, the artist breaks the mold to reveal an intricate metal sculpture. -Handcast brass -Top hinges open to stow small objects -Wipe with dry cloth -Made in India
