Golden snapped his favorite childhood hangouts along the North Carolina boardwalk which were rumored to be slated for demolition: "I really wanted photos before that happened as I have let more than a few local landmarks pass without preserving them photographically." Despite its deterioration starting in the 1970's, this strip of beachside businesses was spared from destruction with the support of local businesses.
