gais vintage toys set of two
limited edition: One of a Finds original works are offered one time only in a small reserve. This special CB2 find has a limited edition release of 448. moo two. This charming pair of vintage wooden toys, discovered in the Rajasthan and Gujarat regions of India, depicts the sacred gais ("cow"), a Hindu symbol of wealth dating back to the Vedic period (1500-900 B.C.). Revered in the teachings of Lord Krishna as the living symbol of Mother Earth, the cow is treasured as a most important member of the family-which these figures can lovingly attest to. Just as a village's cows are brightly painted and decorated during Gopashtami ("cow holiday"), these handcarved found objects dating back up to 50 years were also once colorfully adorned and adored. While their once bright colors have now faded to a beautiful patina from years of love and hours of play, their charm lives on in this unique found collection. too different from pics

Well, I thought these little guys so charming online and was not quite dissuaded by the more negative reviews as they weren't very specific. Well, I will be returning these guys as the pair I have are so far from the example shown that it is apples and oranges. Mine are very crude and done as though a 10 year old did them in wood shop. Mine are very boxy, just a square cut out for the opening between the legs, there is no refinement or detail given to the animals...you would be hard pressed to know what animals they were without explanation. There are several layers of paint, chipped in some places to give it an older feel, which I like, but the lack of any real outline to the animals is disappointing. They just are lacking the charm of the ones shown online. They look like I could have gotten them for $5 each at pier 1 or cost plus. I think the product description should have been more specific that the style of carving may vary greatly.

Lovely discription on the website. The objects are nice and probably worth the $100.00 price tag, but if they really are "these handcarved found objects dating back up to 50 years " how is it that the pair I received exactly match the ones pictured on the website? Still, I have them on display and will tell a grand story about them, nonetheless.

I just dropped into the CB2 store in Toronto and saw the Gais display. From the description and knowing the premise behind CB2's One of a Finds programme, I knew what I was about to buy would be different from the display and there was no doubt in my mind that I was buying something that had been well loved before me. I am sorry the previous reviewer didn't "get it". These little guys are, as the description says, charming.

Ordered a pair. They just arrived. The shipment was fast, but the items are not at all as elaborate or colorful as pictured. They are small and largely monochromatic. One contains flecks of tin foil. Certainly not worth the price. Sending them back
