stern counter table
we nailed it. Our first counter height (just right) table tops out in galvanized antiqued metal sheet over engineered wood with exposed mini nails hand-hammered down the seam. Sustainable plantation grown solid mango wood frames open continuous to the floor in an antiqued grey. Kitchen and dining obviously, but think bar, console, drafting table. -Low-emission engineered wood top wrapped in galvanized sheet metal -Sustainable solid mango wood base with an antiqued grey wash -Wood characteristics: mineral deposits, grain, knots and seasonal splitting may occur with changes in humidity and are inherent in product -Accommodates barstools with 24"H seats -To protect temperature-, moisture-sensitive artisanal surface, use coasters and placemats -Made in India

Georgeous Table with Flaws

I've had this table for about 3 months now and the metal on the top has started in bubble in numerous places. Not only that but the top seems to bow. I have not put anything hot on top of the table which leads me to believe that it is defective. I bought two of these and both are having the same issues. I will contact CB2 and see how they handle this as obviously I'm not the only person to have this problem. Otherwise a great design.

Great Table

This table is a great addition to my small 350 sq ft Manhattan apartment. I had it delivered over Christmas along with two of the stainless steel stools, and I absolutely love the look and feel it adds to my apartment. It brings character to my small living space and doesn't clutter. It's sleek, modern and sturdy. I've had it for about two months and it works very well. I imagine it would look great in a larger room as well, whether as a dining table or even as a desk. I use it to eat on as well as where I will put my laptop or write. Probably the best investment in furniture I have made in a while.

Great Table with Minor Issues

I really love the look of this table in my kitchen. It's the perfect height and really blends well with any decor. My only issue is the bubbling another reviewer mentioned on here. I've had it less than 3 months, taken very good care of it by not placing any hot items on it, but now it's starting to bubble in odd places. I'll have to contact CB2 to see if there is anything that can be done about this. If the table were less expensive I wouldn't be as concerned but for the price, it's definitely an issue. That being said, it's still a great looking table.

Love the look, bought two for our office kitchen. For some reason the medal started to bubble on one of them, CB2 was great and switched it out in a few days. Easy to clean and really nice looking! Great price!

Love the way the table looks, well the way it LOOKED....before the top started bubbling....it started with one small spot, then spread to several very noticeable spots. We have never set anything above slightly warm on this table...my girlfriend has been a little OCD about protecting the surface....and it has still bubbled up terribly...the top, sides, everywhere. Very unfortunate purchase.

I absolutely love this table, bought it a year ago for my kitchen and everyone that comes over comments on it. My only problem is that CB2 doesn't seem to have any stools that match it properly or go well with it to choose from since I prefer barstools with a back.

I bought this table to place around the kitchen island in different spots. It's counter height, looks great and can seat 6 people. Added some stools also that slide under the table. Would also be great for the entry way, too. Lot's of versatility:)

I love this table - however, the top of the table seems to have warped slightly over time. it's bowing towards the center. For the price we paid I figured the quality would be a little better. It's unfortunate because I really love the look of the table!

Stern Counter Table + Vapor Counter Stools = Love

My style is very modern and contemporary, but after moving into an older, more industrial loft-like space, I needed a piece of furniture that would tie the bones of the place and my furnishings together. The Stern Counter Table, combined with the Vapor counter stools achieves exactly what I was after. The table lends an authentic vibe, and the nailheads and distressing is beautiful. I highly recommend this table to anyone looking to mix up or tone down their modern taste for something more unexpected and interesting!

LOVE this table. Its sturdy and seemed well made. After about 6 months though we noticed wrinkling in the galvanized metal top - it seems to be delaminating from the wood. However, CB2 was super responsive and they are shipping me another. I hope the new one doesn't have the same issue, because I LOVE this item.

Bubbles all over

This table looks amazing which is why we purchased it. However almost immediately it started to bubble all over the top and the sides. CB2 staff were amazing and offered to swap it out twice for us but each piece is doing the SAME thing. We barely use it and have not put anything hot on it so thats can't be the cause of it. Especially if its bubbling on the sides. It almost looks like the glue is just coming undone and the entire aluminum bubbles. It looks hideous after a while and now we are not sure what to do with it. I love the style and finish of this table, unfortunately the quality just isn't to what I expected from CB2. Unfortunate. Great table if you get a piece that isn't defective. Careful with the corners as well, they came dented and bend right out of the box.

Functional Table 2 - Love it more than ever!

I purchased one of these tables to use in our conference room at work last year. I love the table, and had been considering buying another one to replace a larger kitchen island at home that we used as a prep/snack area. I finally made the leap and bought the table. I don't know why I waited so long. It is perfect for the space. I put a light coat of wax on the steel top. I have prepped 4 dinners on it and it doesn't have a single spot/scratch on the top - I think the distressing on the steel hides more than a smooth, shiny stainless steel. At work we use the flint barstools with the table, which I love. I considered buying two more to replace our old barstools until my 8-year old pointed out that she thought it was unsafe to have a child sitting at a table on a stool with no back. I had to defer to her common sense. The flint stools are 24" high. Our old stools are 26.5" high and they work just fine.

Unique Table

After reading some of the other reviews, I was concerned that it would arrive with damage. Unfortunately; it did, with one of the corners damaged on the table top. It wasn't real bad and it is somewhat hidden the way I positioned in my kitchen. I was a bit surprised at how "Grey" the finish was on the legs, as it appeared to be more brownish on the website. I'm giving it a 5 because the price is reasonable, it's very unique, and the quality is high.

Contemporary Countertop/Kitchen Table/Bar

My wife and I recently moved to a new 1BR apt on the UES. Nice upgrade in a number of areas, but we previously had a nice kitchen counter with some barstools that we lost in the new apartment. Instead, we have a large entryway of really useless space.
That space is now a very versatile countertop thanks to the Stern Counter Table. The look is contemporary and matches the rest of our furniture really well. The metal finish looks great! Thanks to other reviews we were aware of its tendency to scratch and found "express wax" by Turtle Wax, which we use to keep the sheen bright and it looks as good as the day it was delivered.
It's an odd height for a table, but if you need a bar top, countertop, or kitchen island, if this size works for you--this is the one to get.

This table assembles easily and looks great as either a casual kitchen dining table or as a kitchen island, which is how we are using it. Well made, and so far the metal top has held up well to spills. We are very happy with it.

I shopped long and hard for the right table to function as an island and seating in my somewhat tight kitchen. I love this table. It is sturdy, functional and great looking. It has a contemporary vibe with an "old world French" feel. I decided to skip protecting the table, (ie. placemats, coasters etc.) and I love the "patina" it is developing.

I bought this dining table to work with some funky counter-height stools I bought at an antique shop. Getting a high-quality table at this height was difficult, and I'm so thrilled to have found this particular one. The sheet metal and small nails throughout the surface make this table really stand out. It is very easy to match for both the industrial/modern look and the antique/eclectic aesthetic. I'm very impressed with this table, and setup was a breeze.
