Cool, but with one design request
Date:08/25/2010
Every planter I have purchased from CB2 comes without drain holes in the bottom. I don't know if this is because they aren't actually for real plants, but I typically have to drill my own holes. Otherwise, really cool looking.

Hip and Humble
Date:08/21/2010
I liked the first one so much I ordered another. I have them in my urban professional office, and I was worried they'd feel too grungy, but they work. One thing was that the welding on one of the inserts came undone when I tried (stupidly) to lift it out with a heavy plant in it, but I could pretty easily fit it back together and it didn't seem to require rewelding; it's holding fine.

Sleek Modern
Date:08/14/2010
We live in a condo with loads of windows including in front of our small deck. There is metal trim all over the place on the building and I bought a large and small galvanized planter for the deck. We can see them from the living room and they look wonderful. We liked that they had inserts because hauling loads of dirt is not practical . I bought hanging plants and nipped off the hangers and set them on a brick inside the insert and it worked perfectly. Water gathered inside the planter so I drilled three 1/2" holes then empty the bottom occasionally.

I grew up on a wheat farm, and these remind me of the grain silos. It's a bit of nostalgia that meshes perfectly with my very modern new home. I am wholly delighted with this purchase.

Would recommend with cautions
Date:07/13/2010
I ordered 2 planters in each size to put on my new stone patio. They are aestheticly fantastic! One did arrive damaged (looked like it had been bashed with a hammer a couple of times despite looking well packed) but the return and shipping of new one went smoothly.
Like the other reviews, I did add an element for drainage, a layer of rock at the bottom of the insert, and so far the plants seem to be thriving with that.
My only caution is that since these planters are metal, heat can be an issue. I hadn't considered that. My planters are in full sun coverage areas and I definitely have to be cautious that the plants are watered well since the excess heat of the metal does cause more evaporation. Just something to think about before ordering.

Great (but bring your hammer)
Date:07/13/2010
They are excellent . . . look as good in person as on-line. My only complaint is that one came with a dent in the side. A few whacks of the hammer from the inside and the dent popped right out no problem.

LOVE!
Date:07/07/2010
I bought this for a tiny porch and store some of my gardening supplies in the roomy interior. No need for drilling holes in the insert; I simply bought another insert for $5.99 from the nursery to fit, but a little less deep. I placed it right on top of a small plastic food container with a cut-out hole to elevate and drain, so the purchased insert does not sit in water.
The steel insert is very easy to remove to get my supplies. I prefer removing my purchased planter to water and drain thoroughly, but it's not necessary with the small food container placed "face-down" inside. Beautiful!

Perfect Planter for Outdoors
Date:07/01/2010
I live in a very industrial-looking building and wanted to add some plants to my balcony that compliment the building. These planters are perfect! They are very simple and understated and blend into the decor perfectly. They are pretty good quality (especially for the price). I've seen similar planters for hundreds more. They don't have drainage holes, but very easy to drill holes if desired.

Fantastic galvanized planters
Date:06/30/2010
I received these planters for Mother's Day and LOVE them! I'd been searching for galvanized planters for my deck for quite some time without finding any I liked. I saw these in the catalog and was ecstatic to find just what I was looking for. They arrived looking great and are fantastic on my deck. The removable insert is perfect, makes planting easy and cuts down on the weight and how much soil you need. Easily drilled holes in them. LOVE!

Modern goes Traditional
Date:06/30/2010
I purchased 1 of the small planters because it was the right proportion for my large & rather leggy plumeria plant, and the ribbed design complements 2 other ribbed planters I already own. It has been difficult to find a planter in just the right size, that matches my decor. The galvanized finish is out of place since my house is traditional cottage-style and not modern, so I purchased the planter with the intention to paint it. I prepped it by scrubbing it down with a 50/50 solution of ammonia and water, and a fine steel wool. I primed it with Rust-oleum cold galvanizing compound, and painted it anodized bronze semi-gloss. It painted up beautifully, has a more subtle impact and coordinates well. I plan to drill a drainage hole and plant it.
Although I do not intend to use it, the insert for the small planter is 10"D x 10"diameter. I am thinking about using it as an office wastepaper basket, or bathroom trash can. It would also make a great ice bucket to chill beverages at an outdoor BBQ.
The planter arrived well-packaged, in good condition, and the shipping cost was very reasonable.
The only things I can think that might improve this product are pre-drilled drain holes/plugs (since many people seem to be drilling them) and optional adhesive pads or feet, to elevate on different surfaces (e.g. hardwood flooring or decking).

Love, love, love them!
Date:06/21/2010
Wow! These are even more fabulous in person. Arrived double-boxed in perfect condition. Their industrial, super-modern flavor is the perfect complement to my urban terrace. So well made and impressive-looking, your guests will think you spent ten times the amount on them. And with more-than-reasonable shipping rates, CB2, you've done it again.

Date:05/23/2010
I bought both sizes, they arrived DOUBLE BOXED and are perfect. Haven't decided exactly how to use them but can't bring myself to put dirt in them. Thinking about ice and beer/wine in the larger one. Great out on the deck !!!!

the tall one is a great height and offers something more than placing a plant on the floor. the insert allows you to overwater to your heart's content without ruining your floors.

These are fabulous! The inner container makes planting for indoor or outdoor very easy. The height (I got 3 of the shorter ones) makes a nice modern wall. Cant wait to hit the nursery and get these planted!

Just as pictured. Good quality
Date:04/04/2010
These are wonderful in person. Packaged well for shipping, so no dents. Removable liner pot is maybe 1/3 or 1/2 the depth of the planters. I got both and they look great together. I drilled holes in the liner and bottom of planter so water can drain.
Love 'em!
